What is Skill Trade Canada?

Canada’s Federal Skilled Trade program is for skilled workers who want to obtain permanent residence in Canada based on their abilities and skills. This program is one of the 4 Canadian federal programs that are managed and evaluated through Canada’s Express Entry system.

Minimum requirements to participate in Canada’s SkillTrade program

In order to be eligible to participate in this program, you must meet all the minimum requirements stated by the Canadian Immigration Department. These conditions include the following:

First condition: related work experience

For relevant work experience, you must have at least 2 years of full-time (or part-time equivalent) work experience in a professional occupation within the last 5 years prior to submitting your application. (full-time working hours for Iranians are 44-48 hours per week)

You must also demonstrate that you can perform all or most of the basic duties required in that job.

Canadian Skill Trade Program knock groups

Your work history must be in one of the following groups:

The main group of 72 includes technical jobs and transport officers and supervisors
Main group 73 including general occupations
The main group of 82 includes supervisors of natural resources, agriculture and related products
The main group of 83 includes natural resource occupations and required occupations
The main group of 92 includes supervisors and service operators, manufacturing and production
Main Group 93 includes central control operators and aircraft assemblers and inspectors
Major subgroup 6320 includes cooks, butchers, and bakers
Unit group 62200 including chefs
The second condition: having a job offer or qualification certificate

For this condition you must:

Have a valid one-year job offer to work in a full-time job or
Have a certificate of qualification in the desired occupation issued to you by the Canadian provincial or federal governments
What is a qualification certificate?

This certificate proves that you are qualified to work in the desired job. This means that:

You have successfully passed the relevant exam of this certificate
And you have all the necessary conditions to practice and train in the specific province or territory that issued these certificates.

Note that each province and territory of Canada has its own conditions for issuing a certificate of competence and the procedures for obtaining it are also different. For this reason, you may have to go to the desired province or territory for evaluation and take the test, or an employer in Canada may need to teach you the necessary skills and experience for that job.

If the province or territory you are planning to specialize in does not give you this certificate, you will definitely need a valid job offer to be eligible for a Canadian Skilled Trade Visa.

Note: If the job you are looking for is not offered by a province or territory in Canada, it is definitely federally managed (such as an aircraft mechanic job).

The third condition: language skills

You must obtain a sufficient score in one of the language tests approved by the Canadian government and enter your test result in your Express Entry profile. This language certificate is valid for 2 years after issuance and must be valid at the time of registration. The required language score for this program is CLB 7 in English and NCLC 7 in French.

Fourth condition: Education

No condition has been introduced to provide an educational qualification to obtain a Canadian Skill Trade visa. But if you want to increase your rank in the Express Entry pool, you have 2 ways to do it:

If you have studied in Canada, you can get its points
If you have studied outside of Canada, you can receive ECA (Evaluation of Educational Qualifications) from institutions approved by the Canadian government.
Fifth condition: proof of financial ability

To participate in Canada’s Skill Trade program, you must prove that you have enough money to settle yourself and your family in Canada. A single person must provide the equivalent of $13,757 and a family of 3 $21,055 CAD.

There is no need to provide financial resources in the following two cases:

Be currently legally working in Canada
Have a valid job offer from a Canadian employer

If you have any of the following conditions, you will not be allowed to enter Canada with this visa:
Having a bad record, providing false information to the Canadian immigration office, not being able to finance yourself and your family

In Canada, special medical conditions

Necessary documents to participate in Canada’s Skill Trade program with Express Entry

You don’t need any special documents to create an Express Entry profile, but you need to enter the following documents in your profile:

Passport
The result of the language test
Certificate of evaluation of educational qualifications (to earn extra points for education)
Provincial nomination form (if you have it)
Valid job offer (if you have)
Confirmation of background and work experience
Certificate of qualification in the relevant job obtained from the province or territory of Canada (if there is no job offer)
Proof of financial ability
Documents required to obtain permanent residence in Canada after receiving the invitation

If the immigration office sends you an invitation or ITA (Invitation to Apply) after completing the Express Entry profile, you must upload the copies of the documents mentioned above in your profile. Most applicants must also upload the following:

Medical test
Proof of financial ability
Birth certificate (for dependent children)
Adoption certificate (if adopted)
Power of attorney form (if you have entrusted your immigration affairs to someone)

After registering your application, the Canadian Immigration Department may ask you for the following documents. How to participate in Skill Trade Canada program?

To participate in this program, you must apply through the Express Entry system. We will guide you further…

First, you need to create a profile on the Canadian Immigration website
Enter all the documents requested in the previous step.
The next step is entering the Express Entry pool. For this part, you must be eligible for this program or have obtained enough points (67).
At this stage, the Canadian Immigration Department invites you to obtain permanent residence
After receiving the invitation letter (ITA), you must register your application for permanent residence in Canada online

The duration of accepting your application for Canada Skill Trade Visa is 6 months. But the Canadian Immigration Department usually conducts the Express Entry lottery every two weeks. What is the difference between skill trade and skill worker?

You may have heard the name Federal Skilled Worker.
