What are the types of Canadian study visas?

Canadian study visa is divided into two categories: student visa and student visa:

Student visa: This type of visa is issued to applicants over 18 years of age who intend to study in Canadian colleges and universities.
Student visa: This type of visa is issued to applicants under the age of 18 who intend to study in Canadian schools.

The procedure for both of these visas is the same, but the conditions and documents required for them are somewhat different, which we will explain in the following article.

What are the conditions for obtaining a Canadian study visa?

To apply for a Canadian study visa, you must meet the requirements. Whether you are over 18 years old and applying for a student visa, or whether you have a child under 18 years old whose goal is to study in Canadian schools, you must meet the following conditions for the Canadian Immigration Department to issue you a visa:

Canada student visa requirements
Be admitted to one of the accredited Canadian universities or colleges with a DLI number;
Be in good financial condition and be able to pay tuition fees and living expenses for at least one year and present it to the Canadian Immigration Department as financial means;
have enough Thai in the country of origin;
Convince the officer of the immigration office that studying in the desired course and field in Canada has many advantages and positive effects in your future, so that you cannot achieve those goals in your country;
Convince the Canadian immigration officer that your stay in Canada will be temporary and you will leave this country after completing your studies.
Be physically healthy;
Do not have a bad background.
Conditions for obtaining a Canadian student visa

In order for your child to receive a Canadian student visa, in addition to the above, he must meet other conditions:

be admitted to one of the accredited Canadian schools in elementary or high school;
If your child is 10 years old or younger, a parent or legal guardian must accompany him or her to study in Canada.
If your child is over 10 years old, if the parents are not accompanying you, you must nominate someone as your child’s custodian in Canada.

In the next sections of the article, we will talk more about the Canadian student visa.

Since Tai and Officer play an important role in issuing Canadian study visas, we will explain about them below:

What is Tai?

Tie means knot in immigration. Your ties to your country are called ties. For example, if we say that your ties with Iran are weak, it means that you do not have a strong bond to return to Iran after leaving the country.

Now that you know the tie for Canadian visa, get to know the next concept: Balance of Ties

Whenever talking about balance tie, remember the scale. In the picture below, you can see that on one side of the scale, your connections with your place of residence (assuming Iran) and on the other side your connections with Canada are weighed. Which shoe is heavier? This is the answer to Tai’s question.

Who is the officer?

Officers are not aliens, they are human beings, just like you and me. Officers are middle-paid employees working in the Canadian Immigration Department. Most of them belong to the middle class of the society and have a post-graduate or bachelor’s degree. The nationality of the officers is as diverse as the cultural diversity of Canada. Of course, they are all Canadian citizens.

Considering the countless number of cases that flow to the Canadian Immigration Department, it is natural that these officers are very busy. Knowledgeable sources in the Immigration Department informed the visa lawyers that the review of each case in the Immigration Department does not take more than a few minutes.

financial ability

For a Canadian student visa, you must provide at least one year of tuition fees and one year of living expenses in Canada, which for 2023 is between 25 and 45 thousand Canadian dollars on average. In the next part of the article, we will provide more complete information about financial resources.

The cost of hiring an immigration lawyer

If you want to get help from an immigration lawyer to get a Canadian student visa, you have to pay between $1,500 and $3,000 on average. Of course, these amounts can be different depending on the work experience and reputation of the lawyer. Also, if you are accompanied by your spouse and children, you have to pay more.

How much is the financial capacity of the Canadian study visa?

In response to this question, let us explain that according to the law of the Canadian Immigration Department, you must have the ability to support at least one year of education and one year of living expenses in Canada, which is between 25 and 45 thousand dollars on average. Naturally, if you are married, you should also calculate the expenses of your companions for one year.

But how is this financial capability of Canada calculated?

The answer is very simple. Take your one-year tuition fee from the Canadian study acceptance letter or from the education center’s website, then add that number to the cost of living in Canada for one year as shown in the table below. For example, if your tuition is sixteen thousand dollars a year and you are single and you are going to British Columbia, you should do the calculation like this:

26,000 = 10,000 + 16,000

Yes, $26,000 is the minimum amount you must show you have in your bank account. Naturally, the higher this amount is, the more confidence the officer will have that you will be able to support yourself. Of course, make sure that it is clear from which source this money is provided. Your money should not be a loan or debt or loan, which will cause sensitivity in these cases.

Students 10,000 833
First family member 4,000 333
Any other family member 3,000 255

Amounts are in Canadian dollars.

For example:

If you and two members of your family want to live outside the province of Quebec, Canada, you will need the following amounts:

Living expenses (for students): $10,000
Living expenses (for first family member): $4,000
Living expenses (for second family member): $3,000
Total: $17,000

tip

The financial ability for a student visa in Canada is calculated with the same formula.
Funding is very important for a Canadian student visa, and if you cannot provide enough money to the Canadian immigration office, the officer will reject your visa.
It is recommended that Iranian applicants provide more than the minimum amount.

What documents are required to get a Canadian study visa?

The documents required for a Canadian student visa are divided into 3 general categories: personal documents, financial documents and forms.

Put all the personal documents in a single file and upload it in the online application with the file name Personal Information as requested by the Canadian Immigration Department.

Do the same for financial documents. Put all the financial documents in a single file and upload it under the name of Proof of Means of Financial Support in the application in the relevant section.

Financial documents

Note: Before preparing the documents, pay special attention to the following items!

Providing correct and well-thought-out documents is critical at this stage because any documents you provide will be registered in the Immigration Department’s system and will be visible in all Canadian immigration processes.
Avoid submitting any fake documents to obtain a Canadian visa because even if the visa is successful, you will always be at risk.
Also, if you intend to apply for a work visa after studying in Canada or apply for permanent residence after studying after completing your study visa in Canada, the course of your case must be fully thought out and planned. This is one of the very important reasons why many applicants decide to hire a professional immigration lawyer.
All files except the photo file must be in PDF format.
The size of the files should not be more than 4 MB.
All Persian documents must be translated into English or French.

In the following, we explain the details of the documents required for the Canadian study visa:

·        Canada study acceptance letter

To apply for a Canadian study visa, you must upload the final acceptance letter called Letter of Acceptance – LOA in the relevant place in the online application.

Universities that receive a deposit first send an Offer Letter, which cannot be used to apply for a Canadian study visa. In order to receive the final acceptance letter or LOA, you need to pay the university deposit. Place the deposit payment receipt in the Proof of Means of Financial Support file.

A few points about conditional admission and Canadian student visa

Conditional acceptance letters are letters in which the university or college has included terms and conditions for entering the course. If you can prove to the immigration officer that you are able to meet those conditions, there will be no problem in issuing a visa.
Conditional acceptance includes: subject to passing the language course, subject to passing the prerequisite courses and subject to the paper submission of educational certificates.
If your acceptance is conditional on a language course or conditional on passing prerequisite courses, the Canadian Immigration Department usually issues a study visa corresponding to the length of the prerequisite course plus one more year. After passing the prerequisite course and starting the main course, if you need more time to study and stay in Canada, you must renew your study permit and study visa.
·        Valid passport

Upload the scan of the first page of the passport and other stamped pages in the appropriate place in the online visa application. If the visa is approved, its validity date will be the same as the expiration date of your passport. Therefore, from the very beginning, make sure that your passport is valid for the duration of the study period or more so that you don’t have to change your passport and renew your visa later.

·        New personal/passport photo

Upload your photo in jpg format in the appropriate place in the online application. A suitable photo for a Canadian student visa must have the following characteristics:

Do not manipulate the photo in any way. Do not make unusual edits on the photo and believe that your beauty in this photo will not affect the result of the visa.
Your face in the photo must be completely neutral. No smile, no frown, nothing.
If you wear makeup, don’t overdo it. Your natural face should not change.
Having prescription glasses in the photo is not a problem, but do not use non-prescription lenses or cosmetic glasses.
It is not a problem to have a hijab for the Canadian visa photo in order to cover the hair, but it is not acceptable to use covers that cover the face.
The accepted photo size in Canada is three and a half by four and a half centimeters, which is between 31 and 36 mm from the chin to the top of the forehead.

·        Employment letter

In your employment letter to be submitted to the Canadian Embassy, you must write your job title, the length of time you have been employed in that company, the amount of salary received, and a description of your job duties. The letter must be on the letterhead of the company and must be stamped and signed by the company manager and dated. Also, in this letter, the manager of the company can mention the approval of your leave to study in Canada.

Note: If the job letter is in English, it does not need to be translated, even if the letterhead is Farsi.

·       Job offer letter or job offer from the country of origin

The job offer letter is another job document that is not required to apply for a Canadian study visa, but its presentation can convince the immigration officer that after graduation and return to your country, job opportunities await you and determine your future career path. .

In the job offer letter, which is written by the manager of the company/organization or a senior member of the company/organization at your workplace, you are offered a new job at a higher level, which also entails higher benefits and salaries. It also mentions that you are allowed to work in the proposed job after you return from Canada and study the field and expertise they need.

Note: The job offer letter must be on the letterhead of the company and have a stamp, signature and date.

·        Master plan

Your explanation letter to the immigration officer is the master of your plan. Study Plan helps the visa officer to have a better understanding of you and your goals. It should be specified in the master plan that:

Why do you want to study in Canada?
Why have you chosen this particular field of study?
What will be the path of your career and education?
What are your plans after finishing your studies and leaving Canada?
Why don’t you study this field in your country?
What factors make you return to your country? What are your affiliations to your country?
What are your financial resources for tuition and living expenses?

Mr. Visa Canada experts prepare the master plan letter for all clients under the supervision of Canadian immigration legal advisors. Each letter is written specifically and according to the applicant’s conditions.

·        Submission letter or defense letter of the immigration lawyer

If you have an immigration lawyer or legal advisor, this is in your favor because in addition to presenting a master plan, your lawyer can defend you in a separate letter called a submission letter or an immigration lawyer’s defense letter based on immigration laws and regulations.

Although the Canadian Immigration Department does not give direct points to a person who has a lawyer, it is no secret that having a lawyer is crucial for winning legal claims. So, although the lawyer will not do miracles for you, his experience, expertise and knowledge (if he has these) can be very decisive.

·       CAQ

Do you want to study in Quebec? You will need a Quebec acceptance certificate or (certificat d’acceptance du Québec (CAQ). To apply for a CAQ, you must first submit your application and pay for it through the online application. After that, you must submit the required document through the Arima portal. Post.

If your application for CAQ was approved by the Quebec Ministry of Immigration but you are still waiting for the CAQ letter, you can apply for a Canadian study visa with the preliminary approval of the Quebec Immigration Department. You do not need to wait for the original CAQ for the study visa. Quebec Immigration sends a copy to Immigration Canada at the time of issuing the CEQ.

CAQ letter deferral rules
If you defer your admission, you usually do not need to reapply for the CAQ. To be sure of this issue, we recommend that you carefully read the text of the CEQ letter. On this letter, the defer rules are explained in detail.

Is it possible to obtain a Canadian study visa without a language certificate?

The answer to this question is positive. Fortunately for Iranians, the language certificate is not one of the required documents to obtain a Canadian student visa, but its presentation is effective in the decision of the Immigration Department officer and the result of the visa.

Therefore, if you have received conditional admission from a university or college, we recommend that you work on the language issue, retake the test to obtain the minimum required by that educational center, and then apply for a visa with unconditional admission.

Strengthening the language can be helpful both financially and in terms of work potential and psychologically, and we always recommend in Master Visa Canada that while you are in your own country, with the greatest effort, English or French (according to the need) ) strengthen

Canadian student visa

If you, like many applicants, are sending your child to study in Canadian schools, you must be ready to apply for a Canadian student visa after applying to Canadian schools and getting accepted.

The Guardian

If you have a child in elementary school, naturally one of his parents or guardian must accompany the child to Canada (Guardian is the guardian or legal guardian of children under 18 years of age). This will usually apply until the age of ten. In this case, sometimes this person’s visa is called Canadian Guardian visa.

According to Canadian government rules, if parents or guardians of students under 18 years of age cannot introduce them to Canada, they must instead

No need to introduce someone as a custodian.

custodian

Your child needs a caregiver in Canada who can be there for them when needed. We call this person a custodian. The custodian must have permanent residency or a Canadian passport, sign the custodian form and be available at the school. The custodian is responsible for your child’s care and support in Canada. We recommend that you know the duties of a Canadian custodian.

Canadian study companion visa

Canadian study companion visa includes two categories of people:

  1. Spouse/child of a student who has obtained a Canadian study visa or is applying for this type of visa
  2. Parents of students who have obtained a Canadian student visa or are applying for this type of visa
  3. Spouse/child of a student who has obtained a Canadian study visa or is applying for this type of visa

As someone who has obtained a Canadian student visa or is going to apply for this type of visa, you definitely cannot afford to be alone, nor your spouse and children. So what is the solution? Fortunately, Canada is generous in this regard. You can apply for a Canadian study visa with your spouse. Of course, you can apply for an accompanying student visa for both your spouse and children.

The good news is that your spouse has the option of working full-time during your academic studies. Your children also benefit from Canadian public schools and educational services for free. Well, what’s better than this!

A very frequent question that almost all Canadian student visa applicants ask:

Should we act with my wife or separate?

The answer to this question is relative. The simultaneous application of a husband and wife for a Canadian student visa can be helpful in one case and harmful in another. At Mr. Visa Canada, after conducting thousands of cases, and based on the results of that data, we built models that we use to increase the chances of applicants. In fact, we use an algorithm based on the positive and negative results of previous cases.

  1. Parents of students who have obtained a Canadian student visa or are applying for this type of visa

If your child is under 18 years old and has been accepted to Canadian schools, according to the law of the Canadian government, you as the student’s parent can apply for an accompanying visa and accompany him/her to study in Canada.

Your visa will be accompanied by a tourist visa. With this type of visa, you are not allowed to study or work in Canada, but you will be able to convert this type of visa to a study or work visa. In this way, if you are accepted to study at one of the Canadian educational centers or if you get a job offer from an employer in Canada, you can convert your tourist visa to study and work, and in this case, your child’s education in Canadian public schools will be free. became.

Why is the Canadian student visa application rejected?

Canadian student visa rejection usually happens for the following reasons:

The goal of education is not logical and convincing; (the reason for rejection of 77% of cases between 2019 and 2021)
future career and education path is not convincing;

Your ties to the country of origin are weak or you have ties to Canada;
Your documents are not enough to prove your return to your country after finishing your studies; (The reason for rejection of 26% of cases between 2019 and 2021)

What to do after Canadian student visa rejection?

If your study visa application is rejected, do not despair. Rejection is not the end of the road. After rejection, you can do several things and enter the post-rejection stage:

Apply to get a net officer. More details about the reasons for rejection are written in Net Officer.
Apply for a visa again or so called resubmit.
Request an appeal or reconsideration.
File an objection in the Canadian Federal Court or Court.

There is more and useful information about the solutions to fix the rejection on the Canada Visa Rejection Reasons page.

How to apply for net officer?

As we mentioned earlier, in order to have more information about the reasons for the rejection of your case and to make the right decision for the next step, request a Net Officer.

To do this, submit your application online on the website of the Canadian Immigration Department. Of course, only if you are a citizen or permanent resident of Canada or have a temporary Canadian visa such as a work, tourist, or study visa, you can apply for a net officer. So if you don’t have these conditions, we at Master Visa Canada will do it for you.

How can I increase my chances of getting a Canadian student visa?

By considering the following 7 strategies, you can increase your chances for a Canadian student visa:

  1. Indicate that you will leave Canada after graduation

For this purpose, you should mention 3 main things in your master’s plan in addition to stating your academic goals:

Explain how studying in Canada will affect your future career and career and how you will use the acquired skills after returning to your country;
Mention your job affiliations, that you have a job waiting for you after you return from Canada that requires specialized skills, and that the skills you acquired in Canada are necessary to succeed in that job;
Mention the emotional, financial and social dependencies in your country. That your family members are waiting for your return and it will be hard to live without them, as well as property and

You have assets that you need to be present in your country to handle.

  1. Show that you have enough money to cover the costs of studying and living in Canada

Regarding the financial part of your visa application, you must correctly include the following 3 items:

Submit the amount of the first year tuition and living expenses for the first year in the bank letter. Usually, offering more money increases the chances of a visa.
It is better to keep your money in the bank for 4 to 6 months and provide account circulation.
Your financial sponsor should be a close relative, such as parents, sisters, brothers, and spouses. The closer the sponsor’s kinship ratio, the better and increases the chances of getting a visa.

  1. There should be a reasonable proportion between education level and age

It is better to apply for Canadian education according to your age. Usually, if you apply for a Canadian student visa with the following conditions, your chances of getting a visa will decrease:

be more than 25 years old and apply for a college or bachelor’s degree;
Be more than 35 years old and apply for a master’s degree.

You may now say that you know people who got a visa under the same conditions! Yes, this is possible, but in general, the chances of such cases are less. The officer of the Canadian Immigration Department does not directly mention the age factor and its relationship with the educational level, but experience has shown that cases in which the age of the person is compatible with the accepted educational level have a higher chance of obtaining a visa.

  1. The field of study accepted must be related to the previous field of study

If you are eligible for admission to a field related to your previous degree, don’t hesitate and be sure to get admission in the related field, which will increase the chances of getting a visa. The Canadian Immigration Department is strict in this matter and usually rejects cases in which there is no specific and purposeful connection between the accepted field of study and the previous field of study.

But if you do not have the possibility to get admission in the related field and you have to apply for interdisciplinary fields such as management, leadership or business, it is necessary to explain the connection between the fields and the purpose of studying it in a clear and convincing manner.

  1. Take language unconditional academic admission

Although the issue of the language score is raised at the level of academic admission, and the presentation of the language score to the Canadian Immigration Department is not one of the conditions for obtaining a study visa for Iranians, but experience has shown that the Canadian Immigration Department is sensitive and It is more strict. Therefore, to increase the chances of a Canadian study visa, get a direct and unconditional acceptance.

In addition, presenting a high score in English or French psychologically can have a positive effect on the officer’s decision-making because it shows that you will not have any problems in terms of language.

  1. Pay the tuition for one year of study in Canada in advance

In order to obtain a Canadian study visa, there is no written law stating that one academic year’s tuition must be paid, and it is not required. But in some cases, the immigration officer asks the applicants to pay one year of university tuition fees. This has a positive effect on the immigration officer’s decision and shows the applicant’s goal to study in Canada more seriously.

  1. Explain any long pauses or interruptions in your studies

Academic gap means the gap between your previous education level and the next level.

The question that arises for the officers is what have you been doing during this time? Was the work you did related to your field or not? And what are your plans for the future? And why have you decided to continue your studies at a higher level in Canada after a few years?

These are the questions that must be fully and accurately answered in your lawyer’s master plan and letter. Answering these questions can convince the officer that your intention is to study in Canada and not to stay in Canada after finishing your studies.

There are two general paths to obtain permanent residence in Canada after studying:

  1. Paths to obtain Canadian permanent residence in federal programs,
  2. Paths to obtain permanent residence in Canada in provincial programs
  3. Paths to obtain Canadian permanent residence in federal programs
    Canadian Experience Class (CEC)

The Canadian experience method is one of the methods of obtaining Canadian permanent residence that most foreign students choose after graduating in Canada. This method is used for applicants who have at least one year of work experience in Canada and their job is one of TEER levels 0, 1, 2, 3 in the Canadian job classification system.

Therefore, after graduating and getting a PGWP work visa, followed by at least one year of work experience, you can apply for Canadian study residency through the CEC method. This program is a subgroup of the Express Entry system and is considered one of the federal immigration programs.

  1. Paths to obtain permanent residence in Canada in provincial programs

Each Canadian province (except Quebec, which has a different provincial system) has its own immigration programs that go to them.

Provincial immigration is called Provincial Nominee Program or PNP for short. In the following, you can see the PNP methods that are suitable for students and lead to obtaining permanent residence in Canada:

·        Getting job offers in Provincial Immigration Programs – PNP

If you are married and your spouse accompanies you to study in Canada by obtaining a companion visa, you can apply for permanent residence in Canada in less time and you do not need to graduate and work for one year.

In this way, if your spouse receives a job offer or a job offer from a Canadian employer in the province where you are based in one of the specialized jobs after entering Canada, he can apply for Canadian residency and you, as his spouse, can apply at the same time. Apply for permanent residence.

Example: Muhammad with a student visa and Sama with an Open Work Permit work visa entered British Columbia at the same time, and Sama found a job in the computer field after two weeks, which made them immediately able to apply for permanent residence through the provincial program of British Columbia and in the Skill Worker subgroup. and after eight months, Mohammad and Sama’s residence cards were received.

·        Graduates of specific disciplines in Provincial Immigration Programs – PNP

In some provinces of Canada, such as British Columbia, there are fields of study that, if you graduate from those fields, you can directly apply for Canadian permanent residence and you do not need to have a job offer or Canadian work experience.

For example, in the province of British Columbia, if you are studying engineering at the master’s or doctorate level, you can apply for permanent residence after graduation through the provincial method of British Columbia, and you do not need to have work experience or a job offer.

Note that not all Canadian provinces have this program, so by knowing the provincial PNP programs and the desired fields in those provinces, you will be able to get Canadian permanent residence faster.

Quebec immigration programs

You must know that Quebec more or less beats its own horn in Canada’s immigration system. But for graduates of Quebec province, it is possible to obtain permanent residence in Canada. One of the common methods of obtaining permanent residence for Quebec graduates is the PEQ method. One of the necessary conditions for this program is to have French language skills at the B2 level.
